Tomorrow morning I’ll be boarding a jet plane, leaving my boys behind, and flying to Orlando for Global Pet Expo. I’m definitely not a fan of traveling without Rod and the dogs, but the magnetism of the pet industry’s largest annual trade show has drawn me in. Exhibitors at the show can bring pets to their booths – but attendees are not allowed to bring their dogs and cats along, so I’ll have to manage on my own for a few days.
What makes Global so special that I’m willing to fly solo? With over 900 pet product manufacturers under one roof, I’m looking forward to seeing what’s new and exciting in pet travel gear! More than 3,000 products were introduced to the public for the first time at the show last year, and I can’t wait to give you a sneak peek at the great products that will be hitting the store shelves later this spring.
Each year the event organizers, the American Pet Products Association and the Pet Industry Distributors Association, honor the best new products with awards in several categories. This year we’ll be joining the fun by bestowing the “Pet Travel Gear – Best in Show” award to the product we think will be a favorite of the pet travel community.
Manufacturers come from around the world, and the opportunity to explore the variety of merchandise and meet new people has me fairly giddy. I’m also thrilled that I’ll finally be meeting (in person!) some of the brands we’ve highlighted here on Take Paws. In fact, Bionic Pet Products, Dog Tag Art, Kurgo, and Thundershirt – all recipients of our “Best Pet Travel Gear 2012” awards – are going to be there!
