This is an exciting time of the year! Athletes around the country are giving 110% in basketball tournaments – and we’re on the edge of our seats watching our own pet friendly version of March Madness. Electrifying match-ups have come right down to the wire in this battle for the 2018 Best City for Pet Travelers title, and now just four contenders remain.
The timing for this competition couldn’t be any better – we’ll be wrapping up the tournament just as families begin making their summer travel plans. Any of the nominated cities would make a great pet friendly vacation destination for the whole family, but if you’re looking for the very best … numero uno … the top dog … stay tuned, because only two rounds are left until the winner is decided!
Congratulations to the competitors who’ve reached the Final Four! Any of these delightful cities would make a wonderful champion.
Cannon Beach is casual and friendly with everything you’d expect of a well-appointed beach town … boutiques for shopping, a top-notch ice cream shop, and a nice selection of pet friendly restaurants. Of course the highlight is the glorious 8-mile stretch of beach with forested mountains rising in the background, massive rock formations projecting from the ocean, and wide expanse of sand where dogs are welcome to splash in the surf leash-free.
Duluth is a place unlike any other, perched on the western tip of Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world. The horizon expands as far as the eye can see from the Lakewalk path along the shore, and the nearby rocky cliffs and pristine forests boast miles of trails to explore. Whether you’re here to enjoy the lake, kick back at one of the many pet friendly restaurants in Canal Park, or take a drive up the North shore, you won’t be disappointed.
Asheville is a pet friendly playground with spectacular hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway, elegant gardens and grounds at Biltmore Estate, and the downtown Urban Trail, a 1.7-mile loop marked by 30 bronze sculptures and informative plaques. There’s also a fantastic selection of pet friendly accommodations in Asheville, and you’ll never need to worry about going hungry with plenty of pet friendly patios to choose from at the local eateries.
Beautiful St. George is a 22-mile barrier island that floats in the Gulf of Mexico like an unspoiled emerald jewel. Get in touch with nature by setting up camp and hitting the hiking trails at St. George Island State Park. And when you’re ready to hang on the beach, head back into town where the entire public beach is pet friendly and dogs are welcome every day, year-round. For dinner, choose from St. George’s variety of eateries to enjoy the freshest local seafood.
The winner of each match-up will be finalized once the votes have been verified by our diligent authentication team. Be sure to cheer on your favorite cities throughout the tournament – voting in Championship Round begins on Monday, April 2nd!
The best part of this tournament is getting to support your favorite pet friendly destinations! Sharing what makes your city the pet friendliest by posting photos of your pets having fun is a great way to show the love. Post them on our Facebook page or tag us on Instagram, and we’ll share them, too!
