For us, a great benefit of Twitter is people sharing pet friendly things to do in the cities we visit. One follower, @RichmondPets, suggested we visit dog friendly Carytown in Richmond, VA. Turns out Carytown is a vibrant urban retail district with over 300 shops, restaurants, and offices. The area thrives as a center for high-end boutique shops, and is also home to one of Richmond’s most beloved institutions, the Byrd Theatre, a restored movie palace that has operated continuously since 1928.
So first stop, the historic cinema house which was celebrating Canine Cancer Awareness Month with a doggie film fest!
With sunny skies and temps in the 70s, we walked up and down West Cary Street, taking in all the sights and smells. Many of the stores let us browse with the boys … all we had to do was ask. What can I say – it was just a wonderfully pleasant day.
We checked out several of the many restaurants with outdoor dining options. Beware! For some of the establishments, dog friendly means tied up on the fence on the other side of the dining patio. The charming Can Can Brasserie is an example of this policy.
Ultimately, we settled for brunch at Weezie’s Kitchen, which allowed us to park the pups smack dab under our table. Right where we like ’em!
Enjoy your day here!
