Have we mentioned how excited we are to be announcing the first annual GoPetFriendly.com Best Pet Travel Gear awards?!
No group of dogs and people is more addicted to gear than we are. We search far and wide (literally) for the next best thing … the just-gotta-haves … the coolest of the cool. We’ve located some winners and some losers. This week we’re celebrating those elite products that have impressed us enough to become required equipment.
So, what does it take to knock our socks off? These products need to be easy to use, durable, a good value for the money, and somehow improve our pet travel experience. We’ve tested them thoroughly – sent them for many a dip in the lake and rounds in the washer – to see how well they hold up, and these few have made the cut.
Coinciding nicely with the unofficial end of summer, we’re holding an extravaganza! Every day this week we’ll announce another recipient of our Best Pet Travel Gear 2012 award – and give you the chance to win! Today we’re recognizing the Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart Harness.
Ty and Buster’s safety always comes first, and that means they’re buckled up anytime the Winnebago hits the road. We’ve tried several seat belt harnesses over the years and the Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart Harness tops our list.
What really does it for us are the all-steel nesting buckles – which rock climbers and linesmen trust with their lives! They took a second to figure out when I first saw them, but they’re easier to use than plastic buckles and far stronger. I also like that there are five adjustment points on this harness, so you can get a really good fit – if your dog will hold still that long.
We use them a lot, so I appreciate how easy this harness is to get on Ty and Buster – just slip it over their heads and pass the straps behind their front legs to attach the buckles. It also has a D-ring on the back where you can clip a leash when you get out to stretch your legs. The package includes an unadjustable seat belt loop to secure your dog in the car, but if your pup needs a little more space, I recommend getting a well-made tether.
Our boys have jumped in lakes, tore up beaches, and drooled all over their harnesses – and they’ve come out of the laundry looking great every time. It doesn’t take a big investment to keep your dogs safe … the harnesses cost $20-30, depending on size – or you can win one below!
Three lucky winners will be receiving a Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart Harness in the size and color of their choosing! To enter, just visit the Kurgo website and answer the trivia question below.
This contest is now closed. Congratulations to the winners, Michelle Lacher, Anne Hutchinson and Anne Welch-Dayap!
Disclosure: We received two Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart Harnesses to try. The opinions expressed here are my honest assessment of the product based on my personal experience using it. Kurgo will be sending three Tru-Fit Smart Harnesses to the winners of this contest.
