Pet Friendly Hidden Gems Near Baltimore

Baltimore has two pet friendly hidden gems that we highly recommend.  The first is the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park in Oella. Encompassing 138 acres and containing extensive nature trails, the foundation of this park is the museum highlighting the contributions of the first African American man of science. Well behaved, leashed pets are welcome to explore the grounds, but cannot go in the buildings.

We sauntered along the Main Nature Trail behind the visitor’s center to the Trolley Line No. 9 Trail and walked about 20 minutes into historic Oella. The trolley line is wide and paved, which makes for easy walking.

And there is a babbling brook that runs along the trail.

And plenty of benches to rest your paws.

Visiting Pet Friendly Oella

From the end of the Trolley Line Trail we walked into Oella, Baltimore’s second pet friendly hidden gem.  This village grew from efforts to establish the first chartered textile business in Maryland. For a brief period, Oella was home to the largest cotton mill in the US.

You can take the two-mile, self-guided walking tour to really appreciate this picturesque mill town’s industrial revolution architecture. After you work up an appetite, grab a snack at one of the Old Mill Bakery Cafe‘s pet friendly outdoor tables.

For us, this was a great stop along the Philadelphia to Washington, DC corridor, giving the boys a great opportunity to stretch their legs. But it’s also nice to find a couple pet friendly hidden gems near Baltimore!
