Room to Run

Room to RunJust before we arrived in Phoenix, DogTipper.com posted a link on their Facebook page about Nutro Company’s Room to Run event. In one day, Nutro was sponsoring revitalization projects in 29 dog parks across the country. I checked the map and Phoenix was one of the selected locations, so we decided to head over and lend a hand.

We arrived at the RJ Dog Park, named for a police canine who lost his life in 2005, at about 8:15am and the improvements were already well under way. Nutro had purchased several new trees for the park, and the city sent a crew with a backhoe earlier in the week to dig the holes and set the trees. Volunteers were there filling in the holes, and painting tables, benches and fire hydrants.

Representatives from Nutro were there handing out goodie bags, coupons, and free t-shirts.

Unfortunately, Buster was more interested in having fun than helping out.

Mathew Blades, local radio personality from Mix 96.9, even came out to broadcast live from the event. Of course, Buster headed right over for some schmoozing, and Mathew asked to interview us for his morning show! The interview aired last week, and you can listen to it here.

I  want to thank Nutro for sponsoring this event. City budgets have taken a hit all across the county, and it’s unlikely these improvements would have been possible without Nutro’s contribution. I’m sure the people  and dogs and people that use these parks are grateful, and I know the shade from the trees that were planted in Phoenix will be appreciated!

  • Hi Y’all!

Looks like Buster had a fantastic time!  Didn’t see Ty, so I figure he must be more like me and not like the heat too much.

I’ve never been to a dog park.  Hope the people there do a better job of pooper scooping than the people at rest stops do.

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

    • You hit that on the head, Hawk. Ty is not a fan of heat – nor is he a fan of other dogs. The people at some dog parks are better than others – this park was very clean and nice. The people at the rest stop that don’t pick up make me nuts!

What a fantastic event! Dog parks can be so hard to come by and it’s awful if a city has to shut one down. It’s so cool you were able to be there to help these great volunteers revitalise their park. It may seem like a small thing but I have no doubt it will help the quality of life of many dogs in the area.
